HALE BLACK CULTURAL CENTER
Tasked with designing a poster for an initiative on Ohio State's campus, I selected the Hale Black Cultural Center. It is the epicenter of social, cultural, and educational purpose on Ohio State's campus for issues on race, politics, and art.
Brand Identity
Hale's core purpose is to create a community, and I found the geometric iconography of Pan-Africanism transitioned seamlessly into that purpose.
Ideation
Final Product and Activation
The bold lines are vibrant, geometric, angular, but taken as a whole create an abstraction of Africa.
Independent but unified. Collective but individual.
Initial observations indicated many students ignore the Hale Black Cultural Center. This may be in part due to Center not being a centralized entity on Ohio State's campus. Hale lacks the external indicators to be seen.
So I put the posters on the outside of the building... that's about as external as you can get.
I also made business cards for high school students on college tours. Once again satisfying the criteria of external recognition.
And then came back to this project a few months later to design posters for my envisioned "Collective Campaign" around campus.
